The UT San Antonio College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) has announced two key leadership appointments effective Sept. 1. Peggy Ceballos was named the department chair for Counseling and Langston Clark has been named the interim department chair for Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching.
Ceballos, professor of Counseling, has been selected as the new chair of the Department of Counseling. Ceballos joined UT San Antonio in 2024 and joined the college from the University of North Texas (UNT). She holds a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from UNT and has held faculty positions at various institutions including the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Ceballos specializes in culturally responsive counseling for underserved children and Spanish-speaking communities, with extensive publications on multicultural counseling, play therapy and trauma-informed care. Her work integrates scholarship, mentorship, and community engagement to promote equal opportunity and systemic change in counselor education and practice.
As the new department chair of the Department of Counseling, Ceballos envisions a program where academic excellence, clinical expertise, and compassion prepare counseling professionals to lead in a diverse and evolving global society. She is committed to fostering a department that not only teaches a culture of respect and opportunity for all, but lives these values through research, clinical collaboration, and community engagement, especially with underserved populations. Ceballos emphasizes the importance of mentorship, creativity, and collective leadership in cultivating student success and advancing counseling education.
“I believe our collaboration will strengthen our role as a national leader in counseling education and clinical service,” Ceballos said. “By modeling access and representation in everything we do, nurturing creativity, and expanding community partnerships, we will prepare graduates to meet the complex mental health needs of all communities with integrity and passion.”
In a separate appointment, Langston Clark, professor of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching was selected to serve as the interim chair for the Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching. A respected educator and researcher, Clark has been a member of the UT San Antonio faculty since 2015.
"We have one of the most truly interdisciplinary departments on campus, where faculties work intersects with Artificial Intelligence, Early Childhood Education, STEM, Kinesiology, and other fields," Clark said about the department's strengths.
Clark’s work and research focuses on increasing the number of men that pursue careers in education, the training of Black physical educators and kinesiologists at Historically Black College/Universities (HBCUs) and the intersections of athletics, race and education. With experience in education policy, Clark has contributed to the development of national standards for physical education.
"Education happens everywhere—in classrooms, communities, and across everyday life," Clark said. "Our bold and bespoke programs are designed to support each student’s unique journey, helping them make a lasting impact locally, across Texas, and throughout the nation."
The College of Education and Human Development is committed to developing transformative leaders grounded in community, integrity and service. Through its focus on education, health, human development, and policy, the college prepares graduates to make meaningful impact in multicultural and global contexts.
