Dear COEHD Roadrunners,
I am excited to welcome you back to the College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) and The Univeristy of Texas at San Antonio as we begin the new fall semester. I hope you enjoyed your summer break and that your semester is off to a wonderful start so far.
At the university, empowering students and driving research innovation are at the heart of everything we do. The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and The University of Texas at San Antonio will officially join as one on September 1 to become UT San Antonio. This historic integration will bring together our strengths as a prestigious top-tier research university and a world-class academic health center to form the third-largest research university in Texas.
We understand that transitions, while exciting, can also bring challenges, which is why we have established a strong network of support to help you succeed. As a student in COEHD, you will have access to the Student Success Center, health and well-being resources, and hands-on learning opportunities that connect classroom knowledge to real world experience. The university offers numerous resources to support you, and I encourage you to explore and make use of what is available to you at no cost. The university has partnered with Wellness 360 and TimelyCare to provide students with access to quality health and mental health care, including 24/7 assistance available after hours, on the weekends, and during official university holidays. For faculty and staff, the Employee Success Center serves as your central hub for wellbeing support and resources.
Our vision for COEHD is “bold” and audacious. Behind the scenes, COEHD leadership, faculty and staff are hard at work and actively involved in continuous improvement and strategic goalsetting efforts that are resulting in lasting outcomes for students, our community, and the world. I am thrilled too by all the benefits the integration brings to our students, alumni, college, and university.
Aim high, always! I look forward to seeing what this semester holds for you and all that we will accomplish together.
Sincerely,
Mario Torres, Ph.D.
Dean, College of Education and Human Development
