SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Regional Public Education Forum honored Dr. Belinda Flores as their 2024 Education Champion. Dr. Flores is an associate dean for the Professional Preparation and Partnerships, and a professor for the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies in UTSA’s College of Education and Human Development.

Dr. Flores received the Education Champion award on Tuesday, April 16, at the ninth annual San Antonio Regional Education Forum in San Antonio.

The forum was created to connect educators with civic, business, and nonprofit leaders to address Bexar County’s most pressing PF-12 public education challenges and opportunities. This year’s theme for the forum is, “Shaping Education Together: Preparing for Bexar County’s Future”.

Nominations for education champions are received every year to celebrate those who are making an impact in the field of education. Dr. Flores was selected as the 2024 Education Champion due to her incredible leadership and work in San Antonio for several decades.

The Education Champion award adds to the list of recognitions for Dr. Flores which include 1st place for Outstanding Dissertation from The National Association for Bilingual Education in 2000, the 2004 UTSA President’s Distinguished Award for Research Excellence, recipient of the 2015 AERA Hispanic Research Issues SIG Elementary, Secondary, and Postsecondary Award, and the recipient of the AERA Bilingual Education Research SIG Lifetime Achievement Award. As the founder of UTSA’s Academy for Teacher Excellence (ATE) Research Center, Dr. Flores was honored by the White House Initiative on Education Excellence for Hispanics in 2015 as a “Bright Spot in Hispanic Education”.
