Bio
Gabriella V. Sanchez, PhD is a ninth-generation Tejana from Yanawana occupied San Antonio, TX. She completed her Ph.D. in Multicultural Women's and Gender Studies from Texas Woman's University, and M.A. in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies and B.A. in English with a minor in Women's Studies from UTSA.
Her research centers family and community archives as sites of ancestral, cultural, and experiential knowledge. She is currently expanding her dissertation research on the Sutton family and working with members of the family to document the club work and activism of Lillian Woodard Sutton-Taylor in San Antonio, Texas from 1940-1980.
Gabriella is Project Manager of La Crónica Tejana Storytellers Lab, a community-based oral history project, and is co-founder of mija archives, an experimental mija and mami collaboration. Mija Archives documents the memory keeping and storage methods created and practiced by Gloria V. Sanchez (Gabriella's mother). Gabriella is also Social Media Coordinator of Mujeres Actives en Letras y Cambio Social (MALCS) and Co-Chair of the National Association of Chicana and Chicano Studies (NACCS) Chicana Caucus.
