Assistant Professor, Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching
Dr. Hyejeong Lee is an Assistant Professor of Learning, Design, and Technology in the Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). She earned her Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University Bloomington. She also holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science Education and Elementary Education, as well as a master’s degree in Educational Technology.
Dr. Lee’s research focuses on AI literacy, AI for Social Good, culturally sustaining computing education, broadening participation in AI, technology integration, and teacher education in computing. She serves as Director of the SAIL (Sustainable AI for Inclusive Learning) Lab, where she leads research on the integration of AI tools to transform classrooms and advance equity in education. She currently leads several projects, including D4SG (empowering youth to create AI for social good) and FiestaAI (a culturally responsive AI initiative). She is also a Research Fellow at the Urban Education Institute at UTSA. Through her work, Dr. Lee aims to support struggling and underrepresented students by leveraging AI technologies in long-term, impactful ways, ultimately promoting diversity, inclusion, and educational equity.
Her work has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the Best Research Paper Award from the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Technical Symposium, the Best Thesis Award, the INTRA Grant, the Clarence Fogelstrom Grant, the Mendel Sherman Grant, and First Prize in the Women’s Poster Competition.
