Dean Mario Torres

Dear Fellow COEHD Roadrunners,

As Dean of the College of Education and Human Development (COEHD), I am honored to welcome you to The University of Texas at San Antonio. As an emerging international model for developing inclusive and transformative leaders, COEHD is dedicated to supporting students dedicated to leaving a lasting impact through their leadership and practice in education, health, wellness, human development and policy.

Our pledge to you is an engaging and rigorous educational experience that will challenge your thinking across a broad set of topics and themes. We want you to be curious, inquisitive, and dare to imagine new possibilities for education and human development. Our world class faculty is committed to fostering conditions that promote the kind of critical thinking needed for a fast-changing world and knowledge economy.

COEHD faculty and staff are eager and stand ready to help you navigate your academic journey, whether you are a beginning or continuing student. Our goal is to provide you the resources and assistance needed to thrive as a student and in your future careers as educators, leaders, activists, counselors, clinicians, and scholars.

My advice is to make the most out of the programs and resources available to you in the college and across the university. The COEHD Student Success Center, for example, can help ease your transition from admission to graduation, offering workshops, academic support, career transition support, wellbeing sessions, scholarship opportunities, and materials for class projects at no additional cost. COEHD IT also offers poster printing and technology device check-out to optimize your performance in the classroom.

The experiences are endless that await outside of the classroom as well, including museums, parks, restaurants, and professional sports teams. As the fall semester begins, I hope you find time to cheer on your fellow Roadrunners on the fields of competition and show your UTSA pride.

I am confident that you will flourish as a member of the Roadrunner family. I wish you all the very best this academic year. Welcome to UTSA and COEHD!

Sincerely,

Mario Torres, Ph.D.
