Bio

Janet Solis Rodriguez, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio). Her research focuses on teacher and school leader preparation and development across the career span. She is currently studying how structures and mechanisms in professional learning, data-informed decision-making, and leadership practices can be strengthened to improve teaching quality and educator retention, especially in STEM areas. She has authored multiple academic papers and policy reports on educator preparation and development, which have been presented at international, national, and state conferences, and have also garnered national media attention.

Solis Rodriguez has experience in education policy across K–12 settings. She has been a math teacher, teacher mentor, district math curriculum specialist, and liaison and analyst for the Texas Education Agency. Her background as a practitioner continues to inspire her dedication to helping improve educational experiences and opportunities for all students.

She is a Senior Research Fellow at the Texas Education Research Center at The University of Texas at Austin, where she analyzes state and national educator data using quantitative methods. She is also a Research Fellow at the Urban Education Institute at UT San Antonio.

Solis Rodriguez holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy, a Master’s in Quantitative Methods, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater Education from The University of Texas at Austin.
