Ann Marie Ryan is nationally recognized for her expertise in teacher preparation, the teaching of history and social studies, and the history of education. Her teaching and research concentrate on the connections between teaching and learning in P-12 schools, communities and teacher preparation. Within the history of education, Ryan specializes in examining intersections between Catholic schools and US public education policy from the early to mid-twentieth century. Her research has appeared in journals such as The Journal of Teacher Education, Teachers College Record, and Theory into Practice. Her recent work includes The Curriculum Foundations Reader, a history of 20th-century American curriculum, which won an Outstanding Book Award from the Society of Professors of Education in 2022. Her upcoming co-edited book — Innovative Teacher Preparation at a Hispanic-Serving Institution: Juntos, We Will Rise!— offers an important contribution to the field of preparing teachers for all students.
