Description
The Literacy Program within the College of Education and Human Development will host its inaugural Summer Literacy Mini-Conference, both in-person and virtually. This year’s theme, "Stories We Carry, Futures We Grow: Cultivating Identity and Belonging Through Literacy," focuses on empowering educators and celebrating the diverse experiences in our community. The conference is designed for preservice and inservice local and rural-area teachers.
Attendees will have the unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of how literacy shapes identity and belonging in diverse classrooms. By participating, educators will gain inspiration from keynote speakers Eduardo Vega, San Antonio Poet Laureate and Zeke Peña, award-winning author and illustrator, whose insights will encourage creative approaches to teaching literacy.
The conference also provides access to the latest research conducted by faculty members and graduate students, equipping teachers with practical strategies and new perspectives that can be directly applied in their own classrooms.
