Description
You are cordially invited to the third seminar in the RESPETO series, featuring Dr. Nolan Cabrera from the University of Arizona. Dr. Cabrera is a leading scholar in the field of race and higher education, and we are thrilled to welcome him to our campus.
Seminar Title: Unapologetically Brown in a Time of Whitelash
- Seminar Description: Dr. Cabrera will critically examine the reasons that Brown peoples are continually scapegoated in politically contentious times, consider different forms of resistance, while also centering Brown joy in the process. Joy is centrally important so that Brown people are not simply responding to racist attacks but also fostering community self-determination.
- Date: Friday, March 7, 2025
- Time: 9:00 AM
- Location: JPL Assembly Room 4.04.22
Workshop Title: Race is, Race Ain’t: Creating Racially-Engaged Campuses and Classrooms
- Workshop description: This workshop encourages practitioners to critically engage race in their everyday practice. It accomplishes this by first providing an in-depth overview of what racism is and its relevance to educational space. It then engages audience members to both deconstruct how it is present in their practice while dialoging about how to structure racially-inclusive learning environments.
- Date: Friday, March 7, 2025
- Time: 10:30 AM
- Location: JPL Assembly Room 4.04.22
Dr. Cabrera's seminar and workshop promise to be insightful and engaging, offering valuable perspectives on race, equity, and community building in higher education. We encourage you to attend both sessions. RSVP by March 6th!
