Bio

Claudia Cabrera, Ph. D. is the assistant director of the UTSA 1882 Dual Language Community Lab School Partnerships. She received her Ph. D. in Teaching, Learning, and Culture from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2024. Her career spans a combined 18 years in the field of bilingual education. Her experience includes 13 years as a dual language teacher, PK-12 Bilingual Education/ESL curriculum Specialist, and 1882 Bright Scholar Public Schools District Coordinator and Dual Language Coordinator. She is the current lead for dual language instruction and innovative research on four SAISD dual language campuses where she collaborates with teachers, instructional coaches, assistant principals and principals. Her research focuses on teacher language ideologies concerning the reclassification of emergent bilingual students and how they navigate the levels of power in the educational system, dual language education programs, and building dual language leaders. Dr. Cabrera has presented in local, state, and national conferences such as TABE, NABE, La Cosecha and LASA and has recently published in Journal of Bilingual Education Research & Instruction.
