Some deadlines can change from year to year, be sure to visit the scholarship websites to confirm the actual date as well as to learn more about the scholarships themselves. Some on-line scholarship applications may only be posted during certain times of the year.  Watch for the posting dates so that you can return to the website as soon as the application is available.


Each application has its own mailing address. Make sure you send your application to the address specified on the scholarship form. COEHD is not responsible for the content and deadlines in these external listings. It is the students' responsibility to verify the deadlines and eligibility requirements.

RMDC Scholars Program is for all students regardless of ethnicity.

Beginning Teacher Scholarship

$750

Deadline: March 16, 2017

Open to: The Beginning Teacher Scholarship will reimburse applicants for certification tests and test results, and provide funds to help the applicant purchase materials for his or her classroom during his or her first year of teaching. Texas Retired Teacher Foundation will award ten $750 scholarships for the 2017-2018 school year to candidates who are relatives of an active member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA), who have earned or are earning an undergraduate or master’s degree in education at a Texas university or college, and have pursued or are pursuing their teaching certification exam.

An applicant must:

1. have taken or be scheduled to take the Texas teacher certification exam in 2017 in preparation to begin teaching in the fall of 2017 or spring of 2018.

2. be a relative of an active member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA).

3. have earned an undergraduate or master’s degree in education and a teacher’s certification by August 31, 2017.

4. submit his or her application and college transcripts by 5:00 p.m. on March 16, 2017.

The Plastic Place Scholarship
$1,500 per award

Deadline: July 1

Open to:  Incoming students for fall of 2015, who are US Citizens. The scholarship will be payable to the winner's college/university (in the US). Winners are not based on financial need. Homeschooled students may apply as long as academic level is  equivalent to that of their peers. Scholarship awarded to students with an average SAT score of 1070 and average GPA of 3.5 or above.

Urban Scholarship Fund

Open to:  Current College Students and High School Seniors. Must be a graduate of a high school in one of the following 19 cities: Abilene, Amarillo, Arlington, Austin, Beaumont, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Garland, Houston, Irving, Laredo, Lubbock, Mesquite, Pasadena, Plano, San Antonio and Waco.  Must be enrolled full-time.

Mesothelioma Scholarship

$2,000 award 

Deadline: August 15
Open to: Any student who has lived with and fought against any type of cancer, not limited to mesothelioma, is welcome to apply. We also encourage any students who have watched a family member or close friend go through the experience of fighting cancer.
