Bicultural-Bilingual Studies

BILINGUAL EDUCATION STUDENT ORGANIZATION (BESO)

The purpose of B.E.S.O. is to provide information, assistance, and fellowship for students who are interested in bicultural and bilingual studies. B.E.S.O. encourages awareness of bilingual education among all students and faculty. It was founded in 1979 by Dr. Belinda Fores and Dr. Ellen Riojas Clark. B.E.S.O.'s over-arching mission focuses on academic success through its scholarships. The membership reflects the multiculturalism of South Texas, including both traditional and non-traditional students who will become bilingual educators serving in our community.


MEXICAN AMERICAN STUDIES STUDENT ORGANIZATION (MASSO)

The Mexican American Student Organization's mission is to encourage the adoption of cultural pride, awareness, and community activism among UTSA's Mexican American, Chicana/o, and Latina/o student body by learning of the social, cultural, and academic accomplishments of fellow Chicana/os , Mexicana/os, and Latina/os both in the U.S and abroad. In conjunction with the Mexican American Studies department, MASO works to build ownership in student's education.


TEXAS FOREIGN/SECOND LANGUAGE EDUCATION (TEXLER)

The purpose of this organization is to bring together a community of teachers, educators, graduate and undergraduate students who are interested and have invested time to discussing topics of foreign and second language education. As part of our effort, the organization will do an annual TexLER conference hosted at UTSA. The conference will discuss issues surrounding foreign and second language, language policies, cultural integration in mainstream classrooms, community practices in classrooms and teacher collaborative work.

CHI SIGMA IOTA – SIGMA ALPHA CHI CHAPTER (CSI)

A group for members of the Sigma Alpha Chi Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, "the counseling academic and professional honor society international," at The University of Texas at San Antonio.



Educational Psychology

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY GRADUATE STUDENT ORGANIZATION (SPGSO)

The collaborative goal of the School Psychology Graduate Student Organization will be to provide support to all members training to become School Psychologists.  Members will be provided with additional opportunities to enrich their professionalism and become a part of a community of individuals with similar professional goals. 



Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching

INTERNATIONAL LITERACY ASSOCIATION STUDENT ORGANIZATION

The International Reading Association is a great organization for future teachers! The organization promotes reading, reading instruction and affords pre-service teachers the opportunity to join a professional organization. We do our best to ensure that every meeting provides you with the knowledge that will help you in your future as a teacher, or education related job. We only hold two meetings per semester, because we know you are busy! As a future educator, being a member of this organization is highly recommended, and also a great way to gain useful information and meet new people! Membership dues are only $5 per meeting! You will have many opportunities to meet other future teachers, school principals, education experts, and people who support teaching the world to read!


KAPPA DELTA PI HONOR SOCIETY IN EDUCATION

The purpose of Omicron Chi Chapter shall be to promote excellence in and recognize outstanding contributions to education.



Kinesiology, Health, and Nutrition

DIETETIC AND NUTRITION STUDENT ASSOCIATION (DANSA)

This association is designed for students in the Coordinated Program in Dietetics and it aims to develop leadership skills through promoting student involvement in pre-professional and leadership activities pertaining to nutrition and dietetics.


HEALTH AMBASSADORS (HA)

The Health Ambassadors is a group of UTSA students joined my faculty and staff from the Department of Health and Kinesiology who are committed to promoting healthy lifestyle and wellness via community outreach, around the San Antonio and South Texas area. The student members will gain training and experience in community and school based health education, and promotion under the mentorship of faculty and staff.


PRE-PHYSICAL THERAPY SOCIETY (PT SOCIETY)

The mission of the Pre-Physical Therapy Society is to motivate, assist, and encourage excellence in the study of physical therapy. The Society also acts as a support group for the educational and social interests of its members.


HEALTH HONORS SOCIETY (HHS)

The Health Honors Society recognizes and encourages the academic achievements of health majors/minors through the promotion of the discipline brought about by exploration of health promotion through active involvement in research, education, and service. The mission of the honorary is the promotion of the discipline by elevating the standards, ideals, competence, and ethics of professionally prepared men and women in Health Education.
