The College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) at UTSA will host the 17th Annual COEHD Research Colloquium on February 25, 2025. The event will showcase research discussions and poster presentations from students and faculty across various colleges and disciplines.

This year’s theme for the colloquium is “Developing a Vision for Research in Higher Education: Contributions to Culture, Communities, and Human Development”. Attendees can expect to explore a wide range of research topics aligned with the theme, including AI in the classroom, generational narratives and storytelling, STEM education, teachers’ experiences in the classroom, Virtual Reality (VR) learning and much more.

Founder and Head of the COEHD Research Colloquium, Rosalind Horowitz, professor in the UTSA Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching, with a joint appointment in the Department of Educational Psychology explains the inspiration for this event, “I want to give students a practice trial, through our Colloquium, at presenting and developing confidence, which takes many years.”

“The advantage is that when your present a study, you obtain feedback from others that can strengthen your research, and it builds confidence that will lead to other conference presentations and publications,” said Horowitz.

The event will feature a prerecorded video message with opening remarks from Mayor Ron Nirenberg, Mayor of San Antonio, followed by a keynote address by Isabel Martínez, associate professor and director of Latinx, Latin American, and Caribbean Studies at Northeastern University. Martínez address titled, “Hope and Humanity in Uncertain Times: Leveraging Transformative Higher Education Research for a ‘Glocal’ Citizenry”, will focus on the importance of higher education researchers staying committed to work that fosters justice and equality for all.

Participants and attendees will have the opportunity to network with peers and engage with groundbreaking cross-disciplinary research. A buffet reception will follow the research presentation. The Colloquium is open to everyone and will take place from 3-6 p.m. in the HEB Ballroom on the UTSA Main Campus.
