María Guadalupe Arreguín, Ed.D.

Bio

Dr. María Guadalupe Arreguín is a Professor of Early Childhood and Elementary Education at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her research on translingual play, early childhood biliteracy development, critical science pedagogy, and the intersections of language and social justice has been published in top venues including, NAEYC: The Essentials Series, Bilingual Research Journal, Journal of Early Childhood Literacy, International Multilingual Research Journal, Young Children. Dr. Arreguín is co-author of books that include: Supporting Young Dual Language Learners in Diverse Environments. Published by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and Translingual Partners in Early Childhood Elementary-Education: Pedagogies on Linguistic and Cognitive Engagement published by Peter Lang. For several years, Dr. Arreguín has been involved in leadership positions at local, state, and national organizations that advocate for bilingual learners. She has held positions as Vice-President of the National Association for Bilingual Education and past President of Texas Association for Bilingual Education. Since 2021, Dr. Arreguín has introduced the Interdisciplinary Biliteracy Sequence, a three-phase thematic, inquiry-based approach, to numerous early childhood dual language educators.
