Dr. Heriberto Palacio III is a licensed barber, visual artist, and obtained his Interdisciplinary Fine Arts Ph.D. in Critical Studies and Artistic Practice and a Women’s and Gender Studies Graduate Certificate from Texas Tech University. His research focuses on Black masculinities, platonic intimacies, art, and embodied performance, employing interdisciplinary and decolonial methodologies. Dr. Palacio uses Arts-Based Ethnography to examine informal mental healthcare practices centered in Black barbershops and other Black and Brown cultural spaces through creative narratives, poetry, and personal reflections.
