Dr. Heriberto Palacio III is a licensed barber, visual artist, and obtained his Interdisciplinary Fine Arts Ph.D. in Critical Studies and Artistic Practice and a Women’s and Gender Studies Graduate Certificate from Texas Tech University. His research focuses on Black masculinities, platonic intimacies, art, and embodied performance, employing interdisciplinary and decolonial methodologies. Dr. Palacio uses Arts-Based Ethnography to examine informal mental healthcare practices centered in Black barbershops and other Black and Brown cultural spaces through creative narratives, poetry, and personal reflections. 

The Departments of Race, Ethnicity, Gender & Sexuality Studies and History are pleased to announce a research talk by Dr. Heriberto Palacio, a joint Assistant Professor candidate in African American Studies and History.
