Applications Now Being Accepted for the Fall 2023 Doctoral Cohort

The CACREP-accredited counselor education program at the University of Texas at San Antonio is currently accepting applications for admission to its fall 2023 doctoral cohort. The doctoral program involves full-time study and can be completed in three years. A 60-credit master’s degree in counseling from a CACREP-accredited program is preferred (other students may be admitted but will need to complete additional coursework). The comprehensive curriculum includes sequenced coursework, organized clinical experiences, and a series of research courses culminating in the dissertation project. A limited number of students will receive a substantial funding package (pending funding) that includes a paid graduate research assistantship, tuition and fees, health insurance, and a stipend. For funded students, the program entails 60 credits of coursework including a dissertation. Students admitted without funding will be assisted with finding scholarship opportunities and completing a program of 48 credits. The program provides students with numerous opportunities to collaborate with highly productive faculty who are nationally recognized for their scholarly work and leadership in the profession. Strengths of the program include:

  • Mission focused on diversity, creativity, and relational development
  • Opportunities to study and collaborate with leaders in the counseling profession
  • Sequenced training that prepares graduates with advanced skills and knowledge in teaching, research, supervision, clinical practice, and leadership and advocacy
  • Supportive cohort format
  • Opportunities to publish and present with faculty and peers at professional venues nationwide and internationally

To be considered for admission to the cohort, a completed application must be submitted by:
