Welcome to the Department of Counseling at The University of Texas at San Antonio, where your passion for helping others becomes a pathway to making a difference in the lives of individuals and communities. Whether your goal is to become a clinical mental health counselor, a school counselor, or a counselor educator, our faculty are committed to providing a transformative learning experience where students are supported, challenged, and inspired. Guided by our vision of creativity, diversity, and relational growth, we prepare future leaders in the counseling profession to serve with compassion, innovation, and integrity, making an impact locally and across the globe.
Our faculty are not only nationally recognized scholars, clinicians, and mentors, they are also passionate educators who walk alongside students every step of the way. They advance the counseling profession through leadership in professional organizations, including serving as presidents of national and international associations, and by leading impactful grants, groundbreaking research, and innovative service initiatives. Their dedication ensures our students receive an education that is rigorous, inspiring, and rooted in equity, justice, and care.
At UT San Antonio, you’ll engage in innovative teaching, hands-on clinical training, and meaningful community partnerships. Our developmental, wellness-focused approach to counseling equips students to meet the evolving needs of populations across cultural, linguistic, and global contexts. You will also have opportunities to explore specialty areas such as neurofeedback, bilingual counseling, integrated care, and play therapy, as well as to join faculty-led research labs that advance the profession while directly impacting communities both locally and internationally.
It is a true honor for me to serve as Department Head alongside extraordinary faculty who inspire and prepare the next generation of counselors and counselor educators. Most importantly, it is my privilege to support our students on their transformative journeys, whether they aspire to become clinical mental health counselors, school counselors, or counselor educators. Together, we are shaping a future defined by empathy, justice, and a deep commitment to serving a global society.
We invite you to join us and become part of a community where your passion for helping others can truly make a meaningful impact.
With warmth and gratitude,
Peggy L. Ceballos, PhD
