Below is a list of scholarships offered through generous donors to COEHD students. Fall Scholarship applications are open from January through March and are awarded in the fall semester. Spring scholarships are open from late August to November 15 and are awarded in the spring semester.

The Baptist Health Foundations Scholarship
- Open to students pursuing a M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in the College of Education and Human Development.
Bank of America Scholarship
-Open to undergraduate and graduate students for internships and scholarships. Students must be enrolled full-time and actively pursuing a degree. The recipient must be doing field or practicum work at the Navarro Academy or the Edgewood Cardenas Child Development Center.
BESO Scholarships
- The Guadalupe Harber Scholarship, The Rodolfo Jacobson Scholarship, The Riojas Family Memorial Scholarship - Open to undergraduate students seeking a bilingual teaching certificate. Applicants must be members of BESO.
Willian Broadus Annual Scholarship in African American Studies
- Open to students actively pursuing a minor in African American Studies in the Department of Race, Ethnicity, Gender and Sexuality Studies and enrolled full-time. An exception to full-time enrollment may be granted by the Dean of the College on a case-by-case basis when the student is not required to take a full course load to graduate, provided the student is enrolled a minimum of half-time.
Laura Carter Memorial Fellowship
- Open to graduate students actively pursuing a degree in the Department of Counseling. Preference will be given to students in their practicum.
The Dewey Davis, Ph.D., First Professor at UTSA, Endowed Scholarship
- Open to undergraduate students seeking secondary science certification in their clinical teaching semester.
Samjatha Govindaraju Endowed Graduate Scholarship
-Open to students enrolled full-time as determined by the University and actively pursuing a master’s in Special Education. An exception to full-time enrollment may be granted by the Dean of the College on a case-by-case basis when the student is not required to take a full course load to graduate, provided the student is enrolled at least half-time.
Jodie W. McCarley Scholarship for Future Coaches of Female Athletes
- Open to undergraduate students, including entering freshmen and transfer students, who will be enrolled full-time or participating in their professional clinical teaching semester when the scholarship is awarded. Students must be actively pursuing a degree at the university with the intent of becoming a coach of women's athletics or women's EC-12 physical education or coaching program.
The Onderdonk Family Memorial Scholarship
- Open to undergraduate students in their clinical teaching semester who have completed meaningful community service in the last 5 years.
The Vanessa Aliyah Harrison Memorial Scholarship
- Open to undergraduate students who will be enrolled in their clinical teaching next semester and are seeking teacher certification in 4 - 8 language arts, reading, social studies (LARSS), or a B.A. in English with teacher certification in secondary English.
-Accelerated Certification Program (post-baccalaureate) students seeking teacher certification at the undergraduate level in 4 - 8 LARSS or secondary English. Students must be enrolled full-time at the time of application and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better.
The Harold T. and H. Joyce Cook Scholarship
- Open to undergraduate students pursuing an interdisciplinary studies degree and seeking teacher certification at the elementary (EC-6 or 4-8) level. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and financial need.
The Carol Fitzgerald Dodge Endowed Scholarship
- Open to undergraduate or post-baccalaureate students seeking teacher certification in language arts, foreign languages, math, or science. Post-baccalaureate students seeking certification in such areas as counselor, principal, or superintendent certification may also apply. Students must have full-time status, (12 semester hours for undergraduates and 9 semester hours for post-baccalaureate); a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and financial need.
Dr. Arcadia Lopez Endowed Scholarship
- Open to undergraduate or Accelerated Certification Program (post-baccalaureate) students seeking teacher certification in bilingual education.
The Angie Martinez Memorial Scholarship
- Open to undergraduate students pursuing an interdisciplinary studies degree and seeking teacher certification at the elementary (EC-6 or 4-8) level. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and financial need.
The Albar and Englantina Pena Memorial Scholarship
- Open to undergraduate students seeking bilingual teaching certification; Applicants must be members of BESO.
The Endowed Pythagoras Scholarship for Math Teachers
- Open to undergraduate students seeking high school math certification.
Linda J Rasmussen Scholarship in Women's Studies
- Open to students enrolled full-time and actively pursuing a degree in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
The Katie N. Reed Endowed Scholarship
- Open to undergraduate COEHD students and entering freshmen as well as College of Science and College of Liberal and Fine Arts majors with teacher certification. Applicants must be first-generation college students with a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and financial need.
The Ruben Tey Memorial Scholarship- Open to undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Education and Human Development who are actively pursuing teacher certification. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and financial need.
The Dianna Lynn Tidwell Endowed Scholarship- Open to all Texas high school graduates seeking special education certification. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
The Belinda Villarreal-Nelson Memorial Scholarship- Open to undergraduate students interested in becoming educators in the following areas: English, math, science, bilingual education, and special education.
