Thank you for stopping by to learn more about our department, which has been around for over 50 years.

You should know that many of our faculty and staff grew up in the same communities as our students. Our life and work experiences often overlap with those who sit in our classrooms, which makes many students feel respected and at home in BBL (our department’s acronym).

As you make your journey through UTSA, rest assured that BBL faculty will couple your knowledge with their expertise and training, which spans a range of disciplines, such as education, anthropology, language, cultural studies, sociology, and literacy. We will also encourage you to continually engage with your peers as they, too, offer tremendous resources for your intellectual and social development.
