Welcome to TExES
Texas law requires every person seeking educator certification to perform satisfactorily on comprehensive examinations. These examinations ensure that each educator has the necessary content and professional knowledge to perform satisfactorily in Texas public schools. Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) were developed for this purpose.
Important Practice TExES Exam Information
Students registered with Disability Services who need accommodation for a Practice TExES exam must contact Disability Services at least one week prior to the test date. All requests for accommodation must be reviewed and approved by Disability Services.
NEW: Remediation Policy for students retaking a state exam – TExES Remediation Policy
All EC-6 Bilingual Generalist certification students will be required to take the EC-6 Generalist Practice Test, the Bilingual Supplemental Practice Test, and attend a Generalist Review in order to be approved to register for the EC-6 Bilingual Generalist state exam.
Only EC-6 Bilingual Generalist students will be permitted to take both of these Practice tests during a Practice test session if the following conditions exist:
· completion of the EC-6 Generalist Practice test
· at least forty-five minutes prior to the conclusion of the Practice Test Session remains
There will not be an exception to these conditions.
NEW Pre-Clinical Teaching Requirement
“Once an individual has received their teaching certificate they may challenge other certification exams by registering directly with ETS. UTSA will not approve individuals to test for additional state exams.”
State Exams- NEW TEA RULE effective September 1, 2015:
Individuals may take the same state exam a total of 5 times. After the fifth attempt, TEA will have to give approval to retake the exam.
Core Subjects (211 & 291) Exams: UTSA encourages our Core Subjects candidates to be fully aware of the retest policy and that they do not use up all of their attempts by taking individual subtests (800-level tests). Even though the ETS system will allow candidates to sign up for the 800-level subtests after they take the whole Core Subjects test, they should NOT do so unless they are down to only one test left to pass. Candidates may skip through the sections of the test they have already passed by clicking next, next, next, and so on until they get to the sections that they still need to pass. Candidates do not need to answer a single question in the sections that they have already passed. Again, the only time a candidate should sign up for an individual subtest is when that is the last test the candidate needs to pass. Candidates who have inadvertently registered for individual subtests may call ETS at (800) 205-2626 to reschedule those exams into the appropriate Core Subjects exam.
*The SBEC will determine rules for a waiver and the rules are anticipated to be in effect May of 2016.
