Welcome to TExES

TExES Information

Texas law requires every person seeking educator certification to perform satisfactorily on comprehensive examinations. These examinations ensure that each educator has the necessary content and professional knowledge to perform satisfactorily in Texas public schools. Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) were developed for this purpose.

Due to staffing constraints, test approval will be limited between June 28 and July 15, 2019. If you need test approval, please submit your eligibility form as soon as practical.

State Exams- NEW TEA RULE effective September 1, 2015:
Individuals may take the same state exam a total of 5 times. After the fifth attempt, TEA will have to give approval to retake the exam.

The Texas Education Agency is planning major changes to the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) and Core Subjects tests. Candidates certified after January 1, 2021 will have to take an additional certification test on the Science of Teaching Reading. The PPR multiple choice test may be replaced by a performance-based assessment. These changes will require extra expense and effort. You may be best served to pass these tests sooner rather than later.
