Post-Baccalaureate (Post-Bac) Certification


Overview


Post-Baccalaureate Certification is for students who have already earned an undergraduate degree or higher, and wish to earn a teacher’s certificate.  Areas of Post-Bac Certification include:

 

 


** Each program contains different requirements and deadlines, resulting in varying times of completion.  
** Students should speak with an advisor regarding specific program requirements and deadlines.

 

** Students interested in Post-Bac Certification must attend a Teacher Certification Information Meeting in order to apply.

 


 


Admission Requirements


All students must attend a Teacher Certification Information Meeting to obtain an application for this program. 


    • Student must be Admitted to UTSA, and maintain a preferred email address.
    • Student must hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better, or a GPA of 2.75 in the last 60 hours.
    • Pass the Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT) in the designated content area (see individual Post-Bac plan for further information).
    • Complete 12-15 hours of content coursework. (Math and Science certification tracks must have 15 hours completed).
    • Display oral communication skills and critical thinking skills. Evidence of these skills can be demonstrated by earning a C- or better in related coursework or work experience. 
    • Read, date, and sign the Code of Ethics. (deliver completed form to MB 3.214).
    • Submit an application to the UTSA Post-Baccalaureate Certification Program. This is obtained at the Teacher Certification Information Meeting.
    • Teacher Candidates who did not receive a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the United States will be required to take the TOEFL IBT in order to demonstrate proficiency. Required score for TOEFL IBT is a 26 on the oral language section.
    • Students must also meet any additional admission requirements of the individual Post-Bac Plan.


 

Program Entry Checklist


 

☐  All students must be admitted to UTSA and attend a Teacher Certification Information Meeting to apply for this program.


 

☐  Additionally, all students should consult with Interdisciplinary Education Advising and Certification Center Advisors when enrolling and maintain contact throughout their certification process.


 

☐  Students should consult individual certification plan for specialized core curriculum and professional education coursework requirements.


 

 

☐  Student must be admitted to UTSA


 

 

☐  Meets individual  Post-Bac program requirements


 

 

 

☐  Attend a Teacher Certification Information Meeting to receive program application.


 

 

☐  Read, date, and sign the Code of Ethics


 

 

☐  Deliver completed form to MB 3.214.
