Dr. Tanya J. Gaxiola Serrano selected for CAHEP Early Career Workshop

Dr. Tanya J. Gaxiola Serrano, assistant professor in the COEHD Educational Leadership Studies department, was one of 30 participants chosen for the Early Career Workshop by the Council for the Advancement of Higher Education Programs (CAHEP) at this year’s Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) conference.

The workshop, which will take place on November 13, 2019, is offered to assistant professors, new associate professors in higher education programs, and advanced doctoral students at the dissertation stage who intend to become faculty. At the workshop, a diverse group of recently tenured faculty and senior scholars from around the country will share advice and expertise about how to craft and develop a research agenda, effectively teach and advise, earn tenure and promotion, and shape a successful and meaningful career.

Reflecting on her accomplishment, Gaxiola Serrano said, “As a Latina who is a first generation college student and now faculty, I am excited to participate in a space that can provide me with the tools to help me prepare in my new role as an educator, mentor, researcher, and social justice change agent. I look forward to connecting with colleagues across the nation and learning from one another as we continue to transform academia.”
