The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Education and Human Development will host the ninth annual National Latino Children's Literature Conference Feb. 22-24, 2018 at the UTSA Downtown Campus. The three-day event will bring together educators, authors, librarians, researchers, and students from across North America to discuss the current and future status of Latino children's literature.

The conference will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22 with a special opening ceremony from conference co-chairs Dr. Howard Smith and Dr. Carmen Tafolla, professors in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies.

This year's conference will feature keynote addresses by San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, and award-winning authors and illustrators Rafael López, Monica Brown, Margarita Robleda Moguel, and Guadalupe Garcia McCall. The conference will also feature presentations, workshops, and breakout sessions on a wide range of topics including the writing process, advocating for Spanish language literature, and strategies for incorporating Latino children's literature into the classroom.

The conference will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 24 with a closing ceremony and tour of the new Latino Collections at the San Antonio Public Library's Central Branch.
