The UTSA Women’s Studies Institute (WSI) will host Take Back the Night Monday, Oct. 9 2017 in the UC Paseo from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event is co-sponsored with the UTSA Police Department and the Title IX Office of Equal Opportunity Services.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with banner making for the march. The welcome featuring guest speakers Captain Stephanie Schoenborn, UTSA Police Department; and Director Leonard Flaum, Equal Opportunity Services will start at 7 p.m.  The march will take place after the welcome and will conclude with an open mic event where students present their poetry on domestic and sexual violence, domestic violence awareness and domestic violence survival.

UTSA organizations and community organizations will participate in the event: UTSA counseling services, UTSA Student Health Services, Women in Leadership, Rape Crisis Center, SAPD Alarms Investigations Office, SAPD Missing Persons, and Texas Advocacy Project.

Take Back the Night began in the 1960s and is a part of the international initiative to end structural violence. This will be WSI’s 9th Take Back the Night event.
