Five professors receive COEHD Faculty Research Awards

Five faculty members from across the College of Education and Human Development each received a 2017-2018 COEHD Faculty Research Award. The award, given annually, provides seed grants to junior faculty to enhance their research agenda. This year's recipients included:

  • Sofia Bahena - PI (Educational Leadership and Policy Studies), Enrique Alemán, Jr. - Co-PI (Educational Leadership and Policy Studies), and Sonya Alemán - Co-PI (Bicultural-Bilingual Studies): "Constructing a Latina/o Educational Pipeline in Texas: A Critical Race Analysis"
  • Aleta Baldwin (Kinesiology, Health, and Nutrition): "An Investigation into Systemic and Institutional Barriers to the Provision of High-Quality Healthcare to Sexual and Gender Minority Individuals"
  • Eunhee Chung (Kinesiology, Health, and Nutrition): "The effects of Western diet on pregnancy outcomes and implications on offspring health"
  • Timothy Grigsby (Kinesiology, Health, and Nutrition): "Development and Testing of the Tobacco and Nicotine Consequences Scale (TANCS) to screen and identify tobacco and nicotine misusers"
  • Victor Villarreal (Educational Psychology): "Evaluation of Behavioral and Emotional Screening Instruments: Implications for School-Based Universal Screening"

The faculty will present a poster of their research project at the college's annual faculty and staff meeting next fall.
