Dr. Sharon Nichols, associate professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, will travel to Finland to present her research at the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction conference from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2.

Nichols’ presentation will focus on pre-service teachers’ beliefs about high-stakes tests and testing, and how national accountability mechanisms influence these beliefs. She is one of nearly 100 researchers from around the world presenting at the conference.

“This conference will expand my exposure to international perspectives on teachers, teaching, and on students which will have benefits for both my research and my teaching in the classroom, specifically as it relates to preparing pre-service teachers,” said Nichols.

This will be Nichols’ first time in Finland. Her research areas focus on the influence of educational policy on educators’ perceptions and attitudes in the classroom.

“I hope to gain a more global perspective on how scholars think about teachers and teaching, and the policies that guide their profession,” said Nichols.
