COEHD professor publishes book on ESL STEM education

Dr. Juliet Langman, professor of applied linguistics and associate dean of Graduate Studies, recently co-edited a book with COEHD alumna Dr. Holly Hansen-Thomas on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in multilingual classrooms.


The book, “Discourse Analytic Perspectives on STEM Education,” examines the use of language and linguistic practices to teach mathematics and science in language diverse classrooms. The book includes best practices, analyses, and classroom examples for educators.


The book also features a chapter on science education in bilingual classrooms by Dr. Jorge Solís, assistant professor in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies.
