(Oct. 31, 2012) -- Corey Benson and Leslianne Garcia, two UTSA graduate students in the educational leadership and policy studies master's degree program, recently were honored at the Texas Association for Student Personnel Administrators (TACUSPA) state conference in San Antonio. Benson was name a TACUSPA fellow, and Garcia was honored for her work in a case study competition.
Benson, a second-year graduate student from the Houston area, was selected to be a TACUSPA fellow for the 2012-2013 academic year. With this honor, he received a scholarship to attend the conference, was paired with a board member to serve as his mentor, served as the conference host for nationally renowned higher education technology speaker Eric Stoller, and will write an article for the TACUSPA newsletter in spring 2013.
Garcia, a UTSA alumna from San Antonio, was on the winning team of the annual TACUSPA Graduate Student Case Study competition. Her team won against students from graduate programs across the state with a presentation on how to handle a volatile situation on campus as an administrator. She was joined on the winning team by Derek Bell, a UTSA alumnus and current Texas State University graduate student.
Founded nearly 90 years ago, TACUSPA is the Texas professional organization for student affairs professionals. John Kaulfus, UTSA associate dean of students, is the president-elect of the organization and will be president in the 2013-2014 academic year.
