The UTSA College of Education and Human Development has named Dr. Patricia Sánchez, associate professor and co-director of PIVOT for Academic Success, as the new department chair for the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies.
The University of Texas at San Antonio recently welcomed educators from Mexico City, Puebla, Oaxaca, Guerrero and Veracruz, Mexico as part of the 2017 International Mobility Scholarship Program. The UTSA Office of ESL Services and the UTSA College of Education and Human Development are hosting these high school teachers for a 5-week program that provides them the opportunity to increase their linguistic, cultural, and pedagogical knowledge and skills. The San Antonio Writing Project, housed in the college's Center for the Inquiry of Transformative Literacies, hosted the 2017 Young Writer's Camp at the UTSA Downtown Campus this past month. The camp, which takes place annually during the summer months, provides young writers with the opportunity to practice and learn new writing skills. The UTSA College of Education and Human Development has selected Dr. Jeremy Sullivan, professor for the Department of Educational Psychology, to continue his role as chair of the department. Under his leadership, COEHD's newest department has achieved national accreditation from NASP and added new graduate degrees in its continued growth.
The College of Education and Human Development's Mexican American Studies Program will once again serve as the home for Chicana/Latina Studies: The Journal for Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social. The journal will be under the direction of Drs. Sonya Alemán and Liliana Saldaña, associate professors in the Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies.
