Research
Dr. He’s research expertise is in the fields of community nutrition and health promotion. Her current research program addresses the problems of obesity and its comorbidities using both behavioral and metabolic approaches. She identified behavioral risk factors for obesity in minorities including Hispanics that can be modified through school- and community-based interventions. There are several on-going sponsored research programs currently being carried out in her Laboratory of Human Nutrition at UTSA. These include: 1. “Building a Healthy Temple – A faith-based obesity prevention program for Latino children and parents, funded by the San Antonio Life Science Institute. (2010-2011); 2. “Building a Healthy Temple – A faith-based community participatory research project for preventing childhood obesity among Latino families, funded by RWJF, Salud America! Competition. (2009-2011); 3. “Soy as an Innovative Strategy to Prevent Central Obesity in Menopausal Women”funded by the United Soybean Association and the UTSA Collabrative Research Seed Grant Proram (2011-2012); 4. “Effect of resistance training in preventing yo-yo weight cycling in middle-age women” funded by the UT STARs Plus Fund.Download Vita
