Biography


Dr. Mari Riojas-Cortez has been an early childhood educator in different capacities for 25 years. She became a bilingual prekindergarten teacher in the Harlandale School District in San Antonio in 1988. She has had the opportunity to write curriculum for different major publishers and serve as consultant always focusing on the education needs of young Latino children. Dr. Riojas-Cortez received a Bachelor of Arts from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in multilingual studies and early childhood education from the University of Texas at Austin in 1998. She currently is Professor and Chair for the Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching at UTSA. She serves as Editor for Dimensions of Early Childhood (the journal for the Southern Early Childhood Association). Dr. Riojas-Cortez is originally from Monterrey, Mexico.
