Bio

Felicia Castro-Villarreal is an Assistant Professor of School Psychology in the Department of Educational Psychology. Dr.Castro-Villarreal was born and raised in Robstown Texas, home of the Legendary Cotton Pickers. She received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and  earned a Masters of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from St. Mary's University. Shortly thereafter, she earned a PhD in School Psychology from Oklahoma State University and completed Pre-doctoral training with the APA accredited Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Psychological Services Department. Through her training she has specialized in multicultural assessment, therapy, and supervision. She currently holds LSSP Licensure and is currently accumulating post-doctoral hours toward becoming a Licensed Psychologist. Her teaching, research, and licensure pursuits will ultimately benefit the students she serves in multiple respects. Last, she is very proud of the progress UTSA's 2 year old School Psychology program has made and hopes continue to recruit students to aid in her pursuit of conducting research in school-based mental health service, RTI, and Assessment.

Research

My research interests focus on comprehensive and integrated school mental health service delivery involving the development, implementation, and evaluation of school mental health programs. As such, I am particularly interested in identifying the psychological needs of students and subsequently addressing those needs through empirically supported school-based intervention/prevention programs. Although I am interested in broad based mental health programming, my focus is on preventing school dropout, reducing emotional distress, improving academic achievement, and improving the psychological well-being of all students.Within school based mental health services, educational reform efforts such as RTI, SWPBIS, and culturally and linguistically fair assessment are also areas of interest.
