Biography


Emily Bonner is currently an Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction specializing in mathematics education in the Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching at UTSA, and serves as chair of the Faculty Senate.  All aspects of Dr. Bonner’s work center on equity in educational settings and culturally responsive teaching in the context of mathematics.  After receiving her B.A. (mathematics) and M.A.T. from Trinity University, Dr. Bonner taught in Houston public schools for several years.  She received her Ph.D. in mathematics education from the University of Florida in 2009.  Research interests include equity in K-12 mathematics classrooms, culturally responsive mathematics teaching, action research and successful teachers of students living in poverty.  Currently Dr. Bonner is the Project Director for the San Antonio Mathematics Collaborative (SAMC) professional development project, and was a Co-Director for the South Texas STEM Canter for Educators.
