Biography


Dr. Carolyn Orange

Professor of Educational Psychology

Dr. Carolyn Orange is a Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She earned a PhD in Education from Washington University. She owns Carolyn Orange Consulting and is a member of the National Speakers Association. She has produced a video on self-regulation and a Self-Regulation Inventory that has been used in the United States, Italy, and Canada and is translated into Turkish.  She has published numerous articles in journals, book chapters and has made over 50 scholarly presentations. She is the author of 4 books: 25 Biggest Mistakes Teachers Make and How to Avoid Them 1st edition has been a bestseller and translated into 3 languages: Thai, Chinese and Slovenian. The 2nd edition was published in 2008; Quick Reference Guide to Educational Innovations: Practices, Programs, Policies and Philosophies and 44 Smart Strategies for Avoiding Classroom Mistakes. Her third book, 44 Smart Strategies for Avoiding Classroom Mistakes, also has been translated into 3 languages, Simplified Chinese, Arabic and German. Currently, Dr. Orange is writing a new book with Rowan and Littlefield publishers and some journal articles. Some of her honors include, induction into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame, Spencer Fellow; entry in Who’s Who in the World; selection as a Visiting Scholar to the Educational Testing Service; receipt of the Constance Allen Yellow Rose of Texas Education Award; selection for the college’s Distinguished Achievement Award -Tenured Teaching Excellence Award, Induction into the Exceptional Scholars Talented Tenth.

Her research interests are the motivation and achievement of students, particularly African American Adolescents, Self-regulation ,Academic Trauma and Teacher Education. 

 

           

 

A native of St. Louis, MO, Carolyn is the wife of Dr. John H. Orange and the mother of Traci, Tisha and Timothy.
