Diversity & Elementary School Textbooks: Lessons from Brazil & Texas

The history of elementary textbooks has always been characterized by implicit bias towards dominant cultural epistemologies. This presentation focuses on the critical importance of textbook content selection and how such content can contribute to diverse knowledge about our diverse communities. The presenter seeks to engage in a dialogue about equity and diversity through elementary school textbooks. This presentation will also compare the elementary textbook experiences in Brazil and Texas.
