Accelerated Computer Science Teachers Institute (ACSTI)

The Accelerated Computer Science Teachers Institute (ACSTI) is an intensive 2-week program that prepares current high school teachers to teach computer science (CS) in Texas high schools. This teacher professional development program will focus on both the theoretical and practical applications of CS concepts. The content presented in ACSTI is aligned to the TExES CS teaching standards and the CS 8-12th Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards. Participants will learn about:

  • Java programming, robotics, mobile app and game development, cybersecurity, digital forensics,
  • and more
  • best teaching practices and strategies and CS-related industry standards
  • designing and implementing engaging and meaningful CS learning activities
  • adopting culturally responsive approaches to CS instruction in culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms



  • Essential computer skills (e.g., using productivity tools, web and internet skills, etc.)
  • Current Texas state teacher certification
  • Computer science skills not required


CPE Hours:

  • Participants will earn 80 continuing professional education hours
