Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in Exercise Physiology

The Kinesiology, Health and Nutrition Department at The University of Texas at San Antonio invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise Physiology with the ideal applicant having an expertise in sports or exercise nutrition. The University of Texas at San Antonio is situated in a vibrant and growing community, serving a diverse, multicultural population that is reflected in our student population. While continuing its tradition of excellence in teaching, research, and community service, UTSA is rapidly moving toward classification as a doctoral/research intensive institution.


Responsibilities include teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in exercise physiology conducting research in exercise physiology in collaboration with current faculty, pursuing external funding, participating in curriculum development, and performing university and community related services.


Required qualifications: 1) an earned doctorate in Exercise Physiology or related field (ABD will be considered with anticipated graduation by August 15, 2018); 2) ability to teach sports nutrition and applied exercise physiology courses; 3) strong publication record, or publication potential; and 4) potential for obtaining external research funding.


Preferred qualifications include 1) experience in teaching sports nutrition and/or exercise physiology related courses; 2) experience with undergraduate and/or graduate student mentoring; 4) post-doctoral fellowship in integrative and/or exercise physiology; 5) evidence of securing external funding for research; 6) ability to conduct collaborative research with existing faculty; and 7) demonstrated research productivity through publications and grant writing.

Applicants are encouraged to submit one or two representative research publications although this is not required. The committee may solicit additional references or other supporting materials. The review process begins October 15, 2017, and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants who are selected for interviews must be able to show proof that they will be eligible and qualified to work in the United States by the time of hire. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and background. Summer employment is contingent on student demand and funding. The position will begin in the Fall 2018, pending budget approval.
