The Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Department  (ELPS) prepares educators to become transformational leaders who can work effectively in diverse, ambiguous, and challenging contexts. The goal of this transformational leadership include equity, excellence, social justice, democracy, risk-taking, and responsiveness to community needs.  

Faculty in the department are strongly committed to developing collaborative and responsive relationships with area schools and communities.  The ELPS faculty is a talented, dynamic, and diverse group of recognized scholars and practitioners who continue to make significant contributions to research, teaching, and service in the greater San Antonio area, nationally, and internationally. 

Students in the ELPS academic and professional programs receive a high quality educational experience that prepares them for work in PK-20 educational settings as educational leaders and scholars.  Our doctoral students continue to be recognized by the American Educational Research Association and UCEA for the quality of their research, present regularly at national and regional conferences, while our Master's degree and certification students complete our programs ready to assume increasingly responsible leadership positions in a variety of educational settings.

Finally, the department and its faculty value collaboration with our field partners, having developed partnerships with local school districts and area institutes of higher education to in tandem improve the preparation of leaders at the PK-20 level.
