Urbino, Italy Study Abroad


Teacher Education Study Abroad - Fall 2020 


Join the College of Education and Human Development for a new study abroad opportunity in the historic walled city of Urbino, Italy! Over the course of 13 weeks, students will have the opportunity to learn about teacher education in Italy, in addition to Italian culture, language, and life.The program is open to all COEHD teacher education (IDS) majors, undergraduates pursuing certification in secondary education, as well as COEHD graduate students interested in courses related to teaching in multilingual contexts.

About the Program:

Students will take courses with UTSA professors and engage in service learning in Urbino public schools, work with English language or Spanish language teachers, and observe content area courses. Undergraduate students will be able to complete 12 Semester Credit Hours (SCH) of coursework related to teacher preparation and Graduate students will be able to complete 6 – 9 SCH of courses related to multilingual, multicultural contexts and education.

Undergraduate

  • BBL 4953      Special Studies in Bilingual and Bicultural Studies. (3-0) 3 Credit Hours. (will substitute/cross-list with BBL 3403 Cultural and Linguistic Equity for Schooling and BBL 3053 Foundations of Bilingual Studies)
  • IDS 3123       Culture, Literature, and Fine Arts. (3-0) 3 Credit Hours.
  • LTED 3813    Writing Development and Instruction-EC–6. (3-0) 3 Credit Hours.
  • ESL 3053      Literacy in a second language. (3-0) 3 Credit Hours.
  • ECE 3313      Programs and Policies in Early Childhood Education. (3-0) 3 Credit Hours.
  • ECE 3603      Language and Literacy Acquisition. (3-0) 3 Credit Hours.
  • ESL 3033      Foundations of English as a Second Language
