COEHD Scholarships


Thank you for visiting the COEHD Undergraduate Scholarships page!


Here you will find descriptions of scholarships offered through the College of Education and Human Development Dean’s Office. The COEHD offers two application timeframes:

  • December 22 – March 31 For all eligible students, including Fall Clinical Teaching candidates 
  • August 31 – October 31 For Spring Clinical Teaching and Dietetics & Nutrition students only 


The awards disbursed are intended to cover students' tuition and fees. COEHD scholarships are intended for currently enrolled Undergraduates, Post-Baccalaureate and Master's level students in COEHD. Students from other UTSA Colleges may apply only if enrolled in the Teacher Certification Program at COEHD.


Selected recipients will receive their awards in the upcoming Fall – Spring academic year.


To make the application process quicker and increase your chances of receiving an award:

  • Familiarize yourself with the criteria for each scholarship
  • Have a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid on file with the UTSA Office of Financial Aid by March 1
  • If needed, have required resume, essays, personal statements, proposals, etc. ready to upload
  • If needed, get permission and current contact information from individuals who can provide Letter(s) of Recommendation

The Dewey Davis, Ph.D., First Professor at UTSA, Endowed Scholarship

- Undergraduate students seeking secondary science certification in their student teaching semester


The Onderdonk Family Memorial Scholarship

- Undergraduate students in their student teaching semester 


BESO Scholarships

- The Guadalupe Harber Scholarship, The Rodolfo Jacobson Scholarship, The Riojas Family Memorial Scholarship - Undergraduate students seeking bilingual teaching certificate; Must be a member of BESO


The Harold T. and H. Joyce Cook Scholarship

- Undergraduate students pursuing an IDS degree and seeking teacher certification at the elementary (EC-6th or 4-8) level. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and Financial Need.


The Carol Fitzgerald Dodge Endowed Scholarship

- Undergraduate or post-baccalaureate students seeking teacher certification in Language Arts, Foreign Languages, Math or Science. Post-baccalaureate students seeking certification in such areas as counselor, principal or superintendent certification may also apply. Must have full-time status, (12 semester hours for undergraduates and 9 semester hours for post-bac); Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and Financial Need.


Dr. Arcadia Lopez Endowed Scholarship

- Undergraduate or post-baccalaureate students seeking teacher certification in Bilingual Education


The Angie Martinez Memorial Scholarship

- Undergraduate students pursuing an IDS degree-seeking teacher certification at the elementary (EC-6th or 4-8) level. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and Financial Need.


The Jodie W. McCarley Scholarship for Future Coaches of Female Athletes

- Undergraduate students seeking a B.S. in Kinesiology with Teacher Certification and emphasis in P.E., with the intent of becoming coaches of female athletes.


The Albar and Englantina Pena Memorial Scholarship

- Undergraduate students seeking bilingual teaching certification; Member of BESO.


The Endowed Pythagoras Scholarship for Math Teachers

- Undergraduate students, seeking high school math certification


The Katie N. Reed Endowed Scholarship

- Undergraduate COEHD students and entering Freshmen. COS and COLFA majors with Teacher Certification. Must be First Generation College Students. Minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and Financial Need.


The Ruben Tey Memorial Scholarship

- Undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Education and Human Development and actively pursuing Teacher Certification. Minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and Financial Need.


The Dianna Lynn Tidwell Endowed Scholarship

- Undergraduate students seeking special education certification. Open to ALL Texas high school graduates in the Special Education Certification Track at COEHD. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.


The Belinda Villarreal-Nelson Memorial Scholarship

- Undergraduate students interested in becoming educators in the following areas: English, Math, Science, Bilingual Education, Special Education


   

Graduate Scholarships


The Albar and Englantina Pena Memorial Scholarship

- Master level students seeking bilingual teaching certification; Member of GLOBE


The Carol Fitzgerald Dodge Endowed Scholarship

- Master level or post-baccalaureate students seeking teacher certification in such areas as counselor, principal or superintendent may also apply. Must have full-time status, (9 semester hours) full-time requirement is waived with proof of full-time employment; Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and Financial Need.

Baptist Health Foundation Scholarship for Nutrition and Dietetics

- Full-time Undergraduate Seniors, Post-Bac students or Master level graduates enrolled in the B.S. and/or M.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics; Minimum overall cumulative 3.0 GPA; Financial Need.
