Purpose of Program

This certificate enhances professional preparation and development opportunities for current and prospective higher education administrators. Our curriculum connects theory to practice by integrating classroom-based academic learning and field-based experiential learning.  The certificate program is available to students admitted as special graduate students to seek the certificate independent of a degree as well as current UTSA master’s degree students who are not matriculating through the M.Ed. with a concentration in Higher Education Administration.  


Through the program, students expand their professional networks by working alongside other dedicated administrators and student affairs professionals.  Students benefit from our diverse and experienced faculty who are nationally and internationally recognized for their research, service and teaching.

  • EDL 5303  Human Relations in Educational Administration
  • HSA 5103  College Student Development
  • HSA 5203  Multicultural Issues in Higher Education
  • HSA 6003  Higher Education Law
  • HSA 6123  Program Planning and Evaluation in Higher Education
  • HSA 6303  Seminar in Governance in Higher Education
  • HSA 6503  The Community College

Admission Requirements



All applicants must meet UTSA Graduate School admission requirements and be in good standing with last institution attended. In addition, applicants must meet/fulfill the following departmental requirements or submissions:


Applicant must meet UTSA Graduate School admission requirements and submit the following:

  • Official transcripts from all institutions previously attended (from accredited institution) documenting proof of a baccalaureate degree with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 in last 30 hours of coursework
  • Submission of a resume with evidence of at least one year of experience in higher education
  • Be in good academic standing with the last institution attended

** Students who do not meet the minimum admission requirements or require assistance should consult the program’s Student Development Specialist and the Graduate School Catalog for assistance.
